About Sendai Gyutan
In Japan, thick cuts of beef tongue (Gyutan) are very popular. "Morinomiyako TASUKE" is the only Gyutan restaurant in Tokyo that succeeds the authentic taste of the very first Gyutan restaurant in Sendai, Miyagi. Keishiro Sano was and still is known as the father of Sendai Gyutan. He was taught about the use of beef tongue in stew by a French chef when he was studying to be a chef in Tokyo. Mr. Sano then arranged the thickness and the seasoning of beef tongue to Japanese people's liking, which lead to today's salty flavor. Gyutan is very popular not only in Sendai but all over Japan. It has a similar texture to that of a steak, and is very healthy. Gyutan is often served with rice with barley, pickles, and grated yam. It also goes very well with Sake and beer, making it a popular choice for drinkers. Morinomiyako TASUKE is, once again, the only Gyutan restaurant in Tokyo that serves authentic Sendai Gyutan in Tokyo, thus is frequently visited by a number of foreign tourists.
